How to hire world class talent

  1. Be friends with it.
  2. Expect the process to take 6-24 months from start to finish, anyone great has a lot to leave behind.
  3. Create accelerating, non-vanity metrics.
  4. Understand core desire: to avoid boredom, social isolation, to live autonomously, to create something that lasts beyond death, to externally signal accomplishment.
  5. Make three offers with 6, 12, and 24-month time expirations to accommodate for various risk appetites.
  6. They already know who they are. Subtly remind them of your awareness from time to time.
  7. Different people are critical at different stages of growth.
