Arbitrary Limits

Let’s say that deep down, you truly believe the highest salary you’ll ever achieve is I dunno, $__________ a year. As a pessimistic fatalist, you’re going to make very, very different decisions from the limitless mindset. If you are annoyed by the lack of knowing the number I am impressed by, it means you’ve already set boundaries to fall into. You’re looking for reasons to tear me down, going for the jugular of my ethics, reasoning, upbringing. Feel free. It won’t change my worldview. Negging my lack of boundaries will help you find others that validate your own. You can drink in a circle together.

Those instincts (fear, risk aversion) are no longer advantageous in the 21st century. It’s wired into you from your ancestors having to run from bears. Better not turn that corner, there could be a bear! Now you’re stuck at your desk, shaking about some incremental raise, hiding from real love. Babe, what was this about?
